ECA are pleased to be offering Diabetes Awareness, Blood Glucose Monitoring & Glucometer Training from Duet Diabetes.

Discover a comprehensive Diabetes Awareness Workshop that equips learners with essential knowledge about diabetes. The program covers various crucial topics, including:

•    What diabetes is and the different types of diabetes
•    The signs and symptoms of diabetes
•    The importance of monitoring & what checks are done to ensure that diabetes is well controlled
•    The long term effects (complications) of diabetes
•    How diabetes is treated - a brief overview
•    The signs and symptoms of hypoglycaemia (hypo) and how to manage a hypo
•    The implications of high blood glucose - a brief overview, including causes
•    The role food plays and 'carb consistency'
•    The importance of physical activity
•    What every day footcare consists of and undertake a basic foot check
•    What are considered ‘emergency alerts/urgent referrals’

Blood Glucose Monitoring & Glucometer Training:

•    The learner will have the knowledge and skills to be able to competently undertake capillary blood glucose monitoring for PLWD
•    Classroom based competency certificates' are issued to attendees who demonstrate core skills and capability. Workplace competency is then the responsibility of individual employers.

During the session we will discuss the implications of diabetes for the older person and touch on frailty; as well as diabetes for people with learning disabilities (with additional resources signposted).

Every attendee will receive a comprehensive printed delegate pack on arrival and an electronic certificate after the event.

Refreshments are provided throughout the day. Lunch will not be provided. Please ensure that delegates are aware to bring their own lunch.

The training will take place at Trust Care - Chelmsford Care Centre, East Hanningfield Road, Sandon, CM2 9TP.

A range of useful resources will also be shared, including information from guidelines published by the National Advisory Panel on Care Home Diabetes in May 2022.

The session will be run by an experienced healthcare professional and diabetes educator.
